We stayed there on their new quilt they had bought before in the week, still solid from not being washed at this point. We sat peacefully for what appeared hours. Filtering the newly maroon painted space for something I could put my emphasis on rather than according to my parent, my eyes arrived on an image hung up on the divider over their bed. How did it so rapidly go from an upbeat family without any issues to a family that’s self-destructing? I had an inclination that I was in a dreaming, I was in a bad dream and I needed to wake up. He was in and out of the clinic week after week, having tests and chemotherapy done. For consistently that passed, he started to look progressively slight and delicate. The medications appeared to compound the situation for him, not making a difference. He would get back home, a great many ar rangements, with an anguished look all over and torment in his eyes. I couldn’t take it any longer, so I started evading him. I couldn’t handle investigating those dim eyes of his and seeing the torment in them, realizing that there was nothing I could never really liberate him from his distress. Thinking back on those days, I wish I had responded in an unexpected way. I wish I had set aside more effort to converse with him, had disclosed to him I cherished him all the more frequently, and invested somewhat more energy with him. Rather, I had maintained a strategic distance from him in the house, remaining in my room or in any event, remaining out late with companions just to evade investigating those pained and sad eyes. It was the prior night Christmas Eve, and it was my chance to care for my dad. Consistently that week my family had been alternating looking out for him during that time and giving him his torment meds. Prior at night we had observed Christmas together. That morning my folks had gone to the specialists and were informed that it is shrewd to celebrate early. â€Å"Just in case,† had been the nurses’ words. My eyes overwhelming with tears, I stayed there and watched him. He’s in so much agony. Why him? For what reason would God pick him? This wasn’t OK with me. My father was my best friendâ€I disclosed to him everything. Without him, who was I going to go to when I was vexed or was having issues with companions or at school? Unexpectedly, there was a commotion originating from my dad. I glanced over to see him tinkering with his fingers, as though he were squeezing catches on a little gadget. Statement of Topic Huntington’s Disease (HD) is a genetic disorder in which the necrosis of cells in the brain causes early death [9]. The neurodegeneration of the brain leads to mechanical and psychological symptoms, which can present normally from 30 to 50 years of age or even earlier, which is referred to as Juvenile Huntington’s Disease [3,5,6]. Some mechanical symptoms of HD are change in gait, uncontrolled or sudden movement, abnormal face movement, turning the whole head instead of using the eyes, difficulty swallowing, impairment of speech and general decrease of motor skills [1]. Psychological symptoms include but are not limited to paranoia, irritability, mood swings, changes in behavior such as agitation or instability and†¦show more content†¦These factors can determine how well the brain will hold up against the physical deterioration of the disease. This could possibly lead to postponed and later onset or slower progression of HD [8]. Science and Methods Used Huntington’s Disease is dominant and autosomal, affecting chromosome 4 on the genome [3,7]. Normal individuals have that specific CAG strand repeated 10-28 times, however, an individual with HD possesses 36-100 repeats [1,3,7]. The methods in which cognitive and brain reserve were measured were through a series of cognitive tests and neuroimaging evaluation for six consecutive years. First of all, the participants were uniquely and specifically chosen, making sure they fit proper criteria. This included not possessing other mental or physical disabilities or complications such as depression, mental disabilities, cardiac or health issues and any metal implants (due to neuroimaging). The 821 participants were all over the age of 18, possessed at least 36 CAG repeats, and tested positive (for HD) and had a family history of HD. Initial tests were taken to set a baseline to compare results and the study consisted of six follow-up sessions. A Painful Lesson in Staying Calm Oh boy, was I ever furious! I was cursing up a storm! â€Å"Damn ball! Where the hell did it think it was going? Who the hell ever let me learn how to golf? They obviously were one damn stupid bastard to think I could ever golf!† I briskly stormed away from the tee-box, enraged that my ball was completely out of control as it had flown through the air a few minutes earlier. â€Å"Just go damnit! Hit your fricken ball!† I sounded like a small pathetic child yelling at her mother because she had not gotten her way in an argument as I screamed angrily at my brother who was now standing on the tee-box ready to send his ball to the ends of the earth. As I turned around to begin the journey towards my hopeless shot, disregarding the obvious mistake I was making, it hit me. The pressure from the sudden unexpected impact on the tip of my left elbow shot through my entire body quickly and painfully. The pain shot from my elbow, through my arm, down through my legs, then back up to my other arm, and finally to my head. The pain was strong and sharp. It felt as though I had fallen on an electric cattle fence, and it had given me one strong electrical shock that overtook my whole body with pain for a split second. In that split second I saw the world a little differently. I felt as though I had been shot. My mind paused and took a photograph of the view in front of me. I was only able to take one quick vivid photograph in my mind though because it all happened so quickly. The shimmering green grass was blinding my eyes as the strong rays of sunlight beamed down upon the fairway. There was a little gully about fifteen feet from me where there was tall grass that looked like pieces of green and brown string sticking out of the ground. A little patch of grass was missing by the gully to reveal a small sparkling creek that flowed rapidly. There was no wind to blow the strings, so they sat there motionless. I saw the bright green leaves of the trees that were almost completely surrounding me.

The first question asked by any researcher with a new topic to study is: ‘What sort of research should I use?’ Reference to the literature can be confusing: so much research has been done, so many questions asked and sometimes answered, and so many conclusions have been drawn that it can be difficult to sort out one research technique from another. The decision most beginners to research find taxing is: ‘Should I use quantitative or qualitative methods?’At the most basic level, quantitative research methods are used when something needs to be measured, while qualitative methods are used when a question needs to be described and investigated in some depth. Often, the two methods are used in tandem to provide measurements for comparison and evaluation and to give an in-depth explanation of the meaning of an idea. Quantitative researchThe words themselves hold the clues. Quantitative research includes so-called benchtop science (where experimental tests are carried out), drug trials (where the effects of drugs are measured), epidemiology (where rates of illnesses in populations are calculated), intervention studies (where one technique is used and its effects compared with another), and so on. In one section of a study on child care in hospitals, I asked a group of parents to give a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response to a range of questions on their attitudes to paediatric hospital care (Shields 1999). I then measured the number of ‘yes’ answers and compared them with responses from nurses and doctors to the same questions. The study showed differences in attitude between parents and staff that could have affected communication between them and influenced the delivery of care. In another example, a researcher in Iceland measured the most important needs of parents during their children’s admission to hospital and found that they rated emotional needs as more important than physical requirements, such as rest and food (Kristjansdà ¶ttir 1995).
